Today, I wanted to share with you some exciting news: I recently got engaged! Everyone who’s heard has been asking about how I met my fiance Tyler and how he proposed, so I wanted to share with you our story! :)
It’s actually really funny because the week before my first date with Tyler, a few girlfriends and I were out having dinner. We were talking about how fast time flies when one of my friends made a comment that before we know it, we’re all going to be married with kids. I remember laughing and replying that the only thing I’d be marrying anytime soon is invisaWear. We all laughed because it was so true, my whole life revolves around invisaWear and I was never the type to need a guy to be happy. We all agreed that I was definitely most likely to get married last - if I ever got married at all. It’s so funny how life works!
I had met Tyler a few years back at a mutual friend’s birthday party. As we were all leaving, Tyler came over to introduce himself and the two of us couldn’t stop talking. It’s really funny because he had carpooled with a few friends and I later came to find out that they were all waiting in the car staring at us endlessly talking. One of them kept rolling down the window and yelling at Tyler to hurry up. I remember giggling because Tyler kept ignoring them and wouldn’t stop talking. That night he added me on every social media platform you can think of. I actually ended up running into him a week later, and the two of us couldn’t stop talking again.
People always say that when you’re in the friend zone, there’s no turning back. But in this case - that definitely wasn’t true! When Tyler first asked me out, I immediately told him that I’m so focused on growing my company and that I didn’t need any distractions. Starting your own company comes with a lot of hard work, travel, and busy weekends. Because of that, I told him that I’d be happy to grab dinner but just as friends. Turns out he was switching careers as well so he was in a similar boat and completely understood.
A week later we had our first “date / not date” at Not Your Average Joes. We couldn’t stop talking, we were there for hours. The waitresses basically had to politely kick us out! We started hanging out more and more just as friends and every time we’d hang out, I’d tell my friends how much fun it was and how cute Tyler is. They said that this was my fault and that I had basically friend-zoned myself!
Fast-forward a few weeks later, Tyler and I went to grab dinner. His phone kept buzzing off the hook but he kept ignoring it. I was so worried something bad had happened because it wouldn’t stop ringing. I told him to check it but he kept saying it’s fine and ignored it. Finally a nervous Tyler cut to the chase. He said that he loves being friends and completely understands the startup-life and how busy I am. He said that he would love to be more than friends and that if I say no he doesn’t want anything to change between us because he really values our friendship. Relieved that I hadn’t friend-zoned myself for life, I laughed and said I thought he’d never ask. It’s funny because it turns out that all the texts coming in on his phone were his friends in a group chat telling him that if he didn’t ask today, he’s going to be friend-zoned for life.
And that’s the story of how Tyler and I met! A wonderful year and a half later Tyler proposed on the beach. Thanks for reading our story! I hope you enjoyed it, I’ll definitely try and hop on to share more stories with you all very soon! :) If there’s any topic in particular you want Ray or myself to talk about, let us know!
